Samir Khanna

With a Master’s degree in landscape architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design and an undergraduate degree in architecture from the School of Planning and Architecture in New Delhi India, Samir has been practicing since 2001.

Having lived his life in both India and the US, Samir has been fortunate to get a chance to understand both eastern and western culture and how they influence people’s relationships with outdoor space and design. His design philosophy is founded on trying to understand the ‘connection’ a project has to its context as a driver for the design process – whether it’s the connection between culture and the environment, the connection between land and its people, or the connection between art and culture, he believes that’s it’s really important for a project to reach towards real, visceral connections in an everyday environment.

With prior work experience at Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates on the East Coast and as an Associate with Hargreaves Associates in San Francisco for several years, he sees value and potential in every scale and type of landscape. Some of his award winning work has ranged from large master planning projects to urban infill & neighborhood revitalization projects, large public parks, university campuses and housing . Regardless of project size or location, he strives for designs that exemplify outstanding environmental performance, financial resourcefulness, technical innovation, and excellence in the performance of systems, assemblies, and materials.

With a passion for contemporary design and highly familiar with project management methodologies, Samir is a resourceful thinker in fast paced work environments. A LEED accredited professional who has passed the LARE, his work has been published in the Harvard Gazette and Harvard Design Magazine.

In his spare time, Samir enjoys playing soccer, cricket, and running as well as spending time with his two young children Ishan and Rayan.
