August 26, 2024 – Director Wendy Mok, ASLA, PLA and Associate Justin Richardson, ASLA, PLA joined 20 other panelists at the first ASLA Northern California Chapter Landscape X Symposium. This year’s symposium highlights the benefits of effective collaboration between landscape architects and other disciplines, and experts from over 15 different disciplines are invited  to discuss topics that affect the Northern California region.

Wendy led a panel discussion on how to integrate community-centered affordable housing and equitable landscape, joined by Sam Moss, Executive Director of Mission Housing Development Corporation, and Orrin Goldsby, AIA, LEED AP, BD+C, Associate at David Baker Architects.

Justin, as a former chair of the Projects Committee of the Friends of the Gardens of Lake Merritt, led a field session at the Gardens at Lake Merritt. He walked through the arrangements and entities that collaborated to create the spaces; evolving systems for stewardship of the Gardens now and in the future; and why the Garden is an important environmental and cultural community resource to the community in Oakland.
