Haoyu Zhao

Haoyu Zhao brings a passion for creating welcoming outdoor spaces that foster connection and community, inspired by childhood memories of the public parks in her hometown of Zhengzhou, China, where generations gathered together.

She holds a Master in Landscape Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design, where she received a BSLA Merit Award for her student work, and a Bachelor of Engineering in Landscape Architecture from East China University of Science and Technology.

Prior to joining GLS, Haoyu worked at Reed Hilderbrand and Coen + Partners, contributing to the transformation of Watertown Mall into a four-acre biotech campus and serving as project manager for the Seiji Ozawa Monument Garden at Tanglewood. She also supported the Turkey Bend Hispanic Archives project for the Houston Public Library from schematic design through construction.

At GLS, she focuses on large-scale residential and mixed-use developments, including UC Berkeley’s Anna Head Student Housing project with SOM and Midway Village. Outside the studio, she enjoys reading and writing and is active in the San Francisco Chinese community.
